4. Changes in Method of Diversion
We had a well drilled on this parcel to help minimize or avoid reliance on diversion of surface waters. Well was drilled and cased to 300' yet is low production, producing at less than two (2) gallons per minute and water is carbonated. We installed three (3) poly storage tanks to accommodate use of slow-flow solar pump diversion of surface water. (Pump model is SunPump series SDS-D_128, rated at 1.3 gpm.) In 2018 we started using lower-wattage panels to match solar controller. Measured flow (stopwatch & container method)of pump now ranges from 0.6 gpm to 1.20 gpm, with variability due to solar availability. The use of the storage tanks enables us to make slow-rate diversions so as not to adversely affect in-stream flows, fisheries or riparian habitat. On occasion we also use a small Honda water pump running at low rpm (approx. 6-8 gpm) to augment solar water pumping, but only during times of high water flow and reduced solar availability.

8. Conservation of Water
a. Are you now employing water conservation efforts? Yes
Describe any water conservation efforts you have initiated We have been consistently engaged in improving watershed health on this property throughout the past decade. Much has been done in partnership with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS-USDA), Weaverville office. Our efforts have focused on forest health, hazardous fuels (brush) reduction, wildlife habitat improvement and oak woodlands restoration. We have also planted native cedar in the riparian corridor for shade to cool surface water temperatures for salmonids. Studies indicate these efforts cumulatively contribute to the hydrologic cycle and help ensure a protected and healthy watershed. We just completed another NRCS three-year contract in autumn 2017 that addressed all the above and are about to start a new three-year contract in 2019 that will assist continuance of these efforts. We installed a drip-irrigation system and only apply water to this small cider orchard as needed. All rootstock for these semi-dwarf trees was selected for drought tolerance and will require minimal irrigation once established. Early on we developed a water well for this parcel to help minimize or avoid reliance on diversion of surface waters. Unfortunately, it is a very lower production well at less than two (2) gallons per minute. We rely on poly water storage tanks and very-low gpm solar pumping during appropriate times to reduce and avoid impacts to the riparian habitat.
b. Amount of water conserved
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to conservation efforts.
9. Water Quality and Wastewater Reclamation
a. Are you now or have you been using reclaimed water from a wastewater treatment facility, desalination facility, or water polluted by waste to a degree which unreasonably affects such water for other beneficial causes? No
b. Amount of reduced diversion
Type of substitute water supply
Amount of substitute water supply used
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of a substitute water supply
10. Conjuctive Use of Surface Water and Groundwater
a. Are you now using groundwater in lieu of surface water? No
b. Amount of groundwater used
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of groundwater.
